Hello my dear ones!
It has occurred to me as I near week 40 of this pregnancy that I haven’t officially shared that this wiggly bundle of joy nestled inside of me is a girl! Brendon and I are elated to have a daughter and Dominic has been promoted to the title “Oppa” or “older brother” coming from a younger sister, in Korean.
Before sharing this news with our families we kept it a secret, but afterwards, between the busyness of life with a toddler, moving into a bigger home, work, family festivities, and summer, it must have slipped from our minds to share it with the rest of our friends. Silly idealistic me thought we could squeeze in a photoshoot on the beach with some pink balloons, but the weeks just seemed to fly by and here I am at 39 weeks finally giving up on the idea. Haha. Anyways I’m sure some of you may have already picked up on the news as I’m sure the pronoun “she” has been tossed around here and there.
On May 31, we shared the news with Brendon’s family via cake during a Sunday brunch. What better way to share the news than with cake? Any excuse for cake is a good one, right? Ok, enough on cake. Well, actually one last note on cake.
Usually when I make cake it’s from scratch, and usually it’s chocolate because for some reason moist chocolate cake that is not overly sweet but has a deep cocoa flavour and the perfect consistency of fluffiness but is still dense and intense, slathered with freshly whipped up butter cream frosting, causes your taste buds to burst out in dance and warms the heart all in one bite. But honestly, neither pink or blue frosting looked good in my mind’s eye paired with a chocolate cake so the quest for the perfect moist yellow cake recipe began. When I came across Mel’s recipe, I was sold. She had already tried a few of the recipes I had bookmarked, the ingredients looked right and her technique seamed flawless. The result was good…although not quite amazing. I may have to tweak it a bit and give it a few more go’s, but for the occasion, it did the trick. Perhaps I’m a bit biased towards the pound cake…but enough on cake. For now.
Here’s the recipe (copy/pasted from her website) in case you want to give it a go. Check out her original post for more detailed instructions, pictures, and the story of search for the perfect yellow cake.
Just in case anyone was interested, we updated a little registry from Dominic’s shower with a few things we’d love to have for our baby girl. It has mostly served us as a “Shopping/Wish List” of what we still have left to buy, or snag if it goes on sale, but we’ve thought we’d share it just in case you’re curious or feeling generous.
xoxo
